Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, the data shown in the comments form as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string is collected to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Cookies
I use Google Analytics and StatCounter, which have cookies that generate anonymous usage statistics which help me understand how my site is being used. As noted above, I also have affiliate links which use tracking cookies to see if you’ve made a purchase through the link.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Your privacy matters to me though so, if you’re not comfortable with these cookies, you can opt out.
Data sharing
If you sign up to my mailing list, I will not share your email address or personal details with anyone else unless you expressly allow me to.
Usage data from the cookies mentioned above will be shared with the aforementioned parties as needed (i.e. Google Analytics, StatCounter, Amazon and Rakuten Kobo).
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (Akismet).
Data retention
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This helps me recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. But if you want to delete the comment, just let me know and I’ll do so. (This does not include any data I have to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.)
